We can help ...

Here's some information that will answer some of the questions you might have.

Please tell us how you feel

We can genuinely reassure you that all our staff understand why some people are anxious or fearful about visiting the dentist. In fact, some of our staff have felt the same way in the past. You can speak to anyone about how you feel and that includes our receptionists, dental hygienists and our dentists.

No one wants you to feel afraid and we can offer real solutions which will allay your fears. So please let us know by phone, email or in person and you will find that we genuinely can help you.

Can you help me to overcome my fear?

Often anxious patients need to know exactly what to expect before treatment begins so that they can prepare themselves and we are willing and ready to go ahead. Conversely others want to hear as little as possible about the details of treatment. We can speed up or slow down treatment as required by you.

Can I be sedated during treatment?

If you have dental anxiety or a phobia of dentists and it’s preventing you from getting treatment, whether that’s replacing a missing tooth, a hygienist clean, or having an extraction, dental sedation may help you.

Sedation can also be suitable if you have a strong gag reflex, or require complex treatment, or just have a low pain threshold and a topical local anaesthetic isn’t enough.

What type of sedation do you use?

Dental sedation involves giving you medicine to help you relax and prevent pain during dental treatment. It doesn’t put you to sleep like a general anaesthetic; you’re still conscious and able to talk with your dentist. Instead, it puts you into a deeply relaxed state, where you won’t feel any discomfort or pain.

How do you administer sedation?

We offer two types of sedation:

Inhalation Sedation involves breathing in a mixed gas of oxygen and nitrous oxide through a face mask and offers a milder level of sedation. It is commonly used for children, but also suitable for adults.

IV Sedation (intravenous) involves injecting a sedative medication via a plastic tube, into a vein in your hand or arm and offers a deeper level of sedation, which is suitable for most adults.

I'm scared of needles - is there anything else you can use?

We understand that quite a few people have a fear of needles. Dental needles can be intimidating.

Traditionally, local anaesthesia numbs your entire mouth, making it hard to speak, eat, and feel your lips or cheeks. For children, this can even lead to accidental bites.

That's why we use a the STA Wand System. Using a computer-controlled probe, the wand delivers anaesthesia only to the tooth being treated, thanks to Single Tooth Anaesthesia (STA). This means much less discomfort, no numbness in the rest of your mouth, and a quicker recovery.

If you're nervous about needles, let us know! We're happy to use The Wand to ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible.

Can I email you or phone you to ask a question?

Yes you can email us or phone us on 0161 998 3630 and we're even happy for you to come in to the practice in Northenden to ask us any questions.

In fact if you have a question that's not a personal one, and we haven't covered it in this section, you'd be doing us a favour so we can add it to our list here.
